Visualizing the Risks

Graphic Design, Website Development & Design, Audience Research, Academic Writing, Evidence-Based Visual Storytelling
Project Overview
In my thesis, Visualizing the Risks, I explored how graphic design can be used to educate women about the heightened risks of prescription opioids, particularly for those with mental health conditions. Using evidence-based approaches and research-backed strategies, I developed visual solutions to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and help prevent opioid misuse. By combining public health research with compelling design, my work addresses the gender-specific challenges women face and the need for targeted, effective communication campaigns.
My Contributions
Role: Researcher, Designer, Strategist
Tools: Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Webflow, HTML, CSS
Project Type: MFA Thesis + Public Health Campaign

This project focused on using research-based graphic design to educate women about the risks of prescription opioid use—particularly in the presence of pre-existing mental health conditions. Grounded in extensive literature review and public health data, I developed audience personas and applied techniques like visual rhetoric and audience segmentation to tailor messaging for maximum relevance and impact. The final deliverables included a comprehensive suite of campaign materials: brochures, posters, social media graphics, and a responsive website landing page. Each piece was carefully designed to increase awareness, foster empathy, and inspire behavior change. By combining design strategy with public health insights, the project aimed to bridge a critical communication gap and make complex health risks more accessible and actionable for the target audience.
